Household’s editorial read: “The position which Lincoln holds in the hearts of the American people is unique. It is not, perhaps, that he was such a great man. It is not that the nation recognized in him its highest ideal of greatness. He was both good and great, but it was the essential humanness of the man that made him what he must always be in our history.” Modern Literature and Culture Research Centre Archives, Ryerson University, Toronto.
